Trailer Weight & Towing FAQ
What does GVWR mean?
GVWR is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating — the maximum total weight of the trailer plus its cargo. Never load a trailer beyond its GVWR.
How do I know how much my vehicle can tow?
Check your vehicle's owner's manual or the door-jamb sticker for its tow rating, and stay under it. Factor in cargo, fuel, and passengers.
What is tongue weight?
Tongue weight is the downward force the trailer puts on the hitch — generally 10–15% of the loaded trailer weight for stable towing.
Do I need trailer brakes?
It depends on weight and your state's law — brakes are commonly required above roughly 3,000 lbs.
What size hitch do I need?
Match your hitch class and ball size to the trailer's coupler and loaded weight. Our team can help you spec the right setup.
