What to look for when purchasing a trailer.

Just some helpful tips!

A trailer is a large investment and a huge responsibility as well. A bad quality trailer can cause a lot of problems, place other people on the road at risk, and fail to protect the cargo well. It’s important to research and spend time finding the best trailer for your requirements and budget. Many prospective trailer owners have never purchased one before and don’t know what they should look out for. We recommend you consider the points mentioned below before making a purchase. They will help you make the best possible choice.

Trailer size

It’s extremely important to consider what size of trailer you want before you shop. Some make the mistake of buying a small trailer that doesn’t fit their requirements and that can be a financial burden for a business. Always invest in a larger trailer than you think you need as the size of the cargo can grow over time. Most enclosed trailers are available in 5’, 6’, 7’ and 8.5’ widths and the lengths range between 8’ and 32’.

Number, types  and weight bearing capacity of the axles

This depends on the load, road conditions, and the budget. There are two options available and they include tandem axles and single axles. Tandem axles are more expensive but they can bear bigger loads and travel on rougher roads without much problem. This axle can also handle great speeds well and ensure the vehicle is stable. This reduces the risk of driving the vehicle on rougher roads. Single axles are more affordable and are suitable for lighter loads in good road conditions.

Prospective Trailer buyers can choose between leaf spring and torsion axles. Leaf spring axles are more common and affordable but that comes at the cost of performance. The torsion axles are easier to maintain and a little more expensive, but they perform well in the long-run.
Most axles have 3500#, 5200# and 7000# of weight bearing capacity. The higher the number, the higher the payload. Higher load-bearing axles are also more expensive, but the investment can pay off in the long run because you’ll be able to haul more cargo and won’t cause much stress to the vehicle.

Frame & Spacing trailer

Trailer frames vary on how they are built by manufactures. Some manufactures use cheaper steel, while others use top dollar steel. Check and see if the trailer has C Channel or Tube. Most tube trailers are more costly, but will be a better investment in the long run as the trailer will last longer against abuse.

Color of the enclosed trailer

All trailers are available in white or black aluminum at no extra cost. Some trailer owners want to customize the color so its unique to their brand. We can help you pick out the right custom color for your new trailer. We can also help get your get your trailer branded on request.

Budget and quality of trailer

It’s better to invest in superior quality by spending a little more money up front. That investment in quality will ensure you don’t have to deal with repairs too often, poor performance, and a shorter lifespan. Quality trailers will help you save money in the long run.
